Leveraging Innovation to Thrive in International Markets

Question/Challenge:

The Healthcare Cluster, established by the Cali Chamber of Commerce, brought together five of the region’s most significant health institutions to bolster their international competitiveness. The breakthrough question posed for this initiative was: “How can we enhance our international competitiveness?” These institutions sought to elevate their global standing by developing innovative products and business models to improve their service offerings and operational efficiency.

Strategy:

To address these challenges, I designed and implemented a comprehensive Business Design program over four months. The program included several key phases:
1. Discovery of Opportunities and Needs: The initial phase involved identifying genuine opportunities and unmet needs within each institution’s context, focusing on motivations and challenges.
2. Strategic Alignment and Redefinition of Insights: Through in-depth research, we helped redefine the core challenges and insights, aligning them strategically with the institutions’ goals and capabilities.
3. Co-Creation and Solution Development: We facilitated co-creation sessions where teams generated ideas and developed innovative solutions and business models tailored to their needs.
4. Integration and Validation: The final phase focused on integrating solutions within existing frameworks and setting the groundwork for validation and implementation, ensuring practical and sustainable execution.

Outcome:

The initiative resulted in significant achievements for the participating health institutions:
- Development of Comprehensive Roadmaps: Each institution received a tailored roadmap with specific activities designed to guide their strategic initiatives and improve competitiveness.
- Innovative Products and Business Models: Teams successfully co-created concepts and models that laid the foundation for innovative healthcare solutions and enhanced service delivery.
- Empowered and Energized Teams: The process not only resulted in tangible outputs but also energized teams, equipping them with methodologies and tools for ongoing learning and innovation.

By adopting a structured approach to Business Design, these institutions increased their capacity to innovate and improved their readiness to compete on an international stage.
